For more than 10 years, the IMQA Foundation Grant Program has been providing much-needed financial assistance to struggling quilters. While grant disbursements are generally provided to cover the cost of classes taken at MQS, there have been some rather spectacular exceptions to this rule, including financial aid for a quilter’s trip to help an abused women’s shelter in Nairobi. Funding for the Foundation is provided solely by the proceeds of the Audacious Auction, which is held every year at MQS.
Here’s where we need your help; would you please consider donating a quilted item to be auctioned? It doesn’t have to be a large quilt. In fact, it doesn’t even have to be a quilt at all. Wallhangings, quilted garments and various other quilted items are all very popular and we welcome the chance to offer your quilted donation for bidding. You can either ship your item to arrive no later than May 1 or, if you will be attending MQS, you can drop your item off at the Show Office no later than noon on Wednesday May 11th. Please visit the following site for more information on how to donate to the auction http://www.mqsshow.org/media/uploads/2010/11/19/files/Auction.pdf
If you will be attending MQS this year, we would love to have you join us at the Auction at 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 12. The event is really fun, it’s free of charge and, best of all, it’s for a very worthy cause. . Feel the excitement building in the air as quilts from some of the industry’s biggest names are offered for auction and marvel at the wildly popular Men of MQS as they 'gently and tastefully' encourage the bidding process! At the end of the evening, a lucky winner will receive a superprize worth $1000 which was donated by the very generous Linda V. Taylor. You can’t win it if you’re not there, so please join us for a fun evening spent helping others and having a great time doing it!
I am lucky enough to have been chosen as the 2011 Mistress of Ceremonies and my trusty sidekick for the evening will be the hilarious Cathy Franks, who will be serving as the Audacious Auctioneer. Cathy and I hope that you will lend a helping hand, and we look forward to seeing you at the Auction!
